All About Me
My real name is Mark Severin. I grew up an army brat, living all over the east coast. By the time I was 18 I had moved at least 15 times (depending on how you count). I went to Lehigh University majoring in Philosophy, but having a very strong liberal arts education. After school I moved to Washington DC for a few years. I met a girl and we moved to Chicago, where I started working for Rand McNally. After a nasty break up, I met Linda. We were married over Labor Day weekend in 1999. We got married on the tall ship S.S. Windy. We moved to River Forest where Samantha was born in 2002. I left the corporate world to stay home with her. In 2007 Linda took a job with Kroger in Cincinnati. We spent five years there as Samantha went from a toddler to a fourth grader (and is now going on 28...). Now we're back in Oak Park - Linda has a new job with the Ferrara Pan Candy Co.
I've been cooking for 10 years now, and am self/FoodTV trained. My cooking all started when my wife got pregnant with our only child, Samantha. In an effort to make sure she was getting all her required nutrition, I started cooking more regularly, and discovered I really like cooking (always loved eating). It was pasta and simple pan stews, the occasional roasted meat. Since then I've just been reading recipes, taking occasional classes, watching more Cooking channel. When worth the effort, I now make my own pasta, grind my own meat, or make my own stock.
Besides cooking I'm passionate about music (I play a little guitar and sing badly. Very badly.), and my toy soldiers. I'm curious about the world so I really enjoy watching science shows and reading books on every subject under the sun, especially history, philosophy and literature. I really enjoy movies but just don't have enough time to see nearly as many as I would like.
And oh, yes, my hair is much grayer now than when that picture was taken in 2008!
